Protecting confidential data while keeping mobile users productive. The terms Data Leak Prevention (DLP) and Container are beginning to dominate the mobile management conversation. Over the past few years great strides have been made in providing the tools and solutions that offer management and security for mobile devices; both for devices the enterprise owns and those that employees own. While these solutions generally meet the need to secure the device, they have been lacking in some of the more sophisticated security aspects that are commonplace in laptop and distributed network deployments. Specifically lacking are the robust DLP controls common in laptop management solutions.

Part of a strong foundation for cloud-first, mobile-first IT includes supporting BYOD. BYOD can improve end user satisfaction and enable employees to work anywhere from any device. To really get these benefits though, the end-user experience must provide seamless access to the applications end-users want and need. Accomplishing this starts with extending app provisioning to mobile devices, and automatically deprovisioning mobile access as part of the identity lifecycle. For the best user experience, youll want automatic configuration of native mobile applications with mobile SSO, security settings and app settings like usernames, URLs and tenant IDs. Provisioning devices to users should be simply an extension of the foundational identity lifecycle management system. And, mobility management should enable IT teams to implement simple policies to enable and secure access from mobile. This eGuide provides an overview of how Okta can power BYOD programs with integrated identity and mobili

The National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST) and the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) have taken leading roles in exploring requirements for Mobile Device Management (MDM) systems for government agencies. Mobile devices, particularly smartphones, are exceptionally vulnerable to security breaches. They are easily lost, are filled with unknown applications, communicate over untrusted networks, and are often purchased by users without regard to IT standards and security features.

In an environment where business and government databases store ever-increasing amounts of sensitive and confidential data; and where a growing number of employees need to access that data remotely, password security alone is insufficient to ensure user authentication. Two-factor authentication requires two measures for users to verify their identities and access data.

Device-centric management strategies have prevailed over the last several years, but this approach can no longer keep pace with the increasing number of remote workers who need to access more applications across multiple platforms. Enterprise IT leaders must shift from locking down devices to securing the corporate applications, data, and other proprietary content that reside on these devices. Its time to move beyond mobile device management to a more holistic management method.

Mobility is exploding. Workers and businesses fully expect to work anywhere, any time, from any device. Riding right alongside this growth is the amount of data created and consumed on mobile devices. While this presents organizations with an attractive means of empowering flexibility and productivity, the security risks are real and daunting. Unfortunately, while enterprise mobility management tools can provide valuable administrative capabilities and protect the organization from phone loss, accidental data loss or weak passwords, they lack the necessary visibility into todays modern security risks, including malware and other device-centric attacks

Creating a BYOD policy helps to minimize frustration and risk as you take advantage of cost savings. With a BYOD policy in place, youll be able to confidently move forward with your own BYOD program, staying at the forefront of mobility trends and fostering improved productivity and user satisfaction. Using a short template can help you identify the key elements that your policy should include. The more policy elements youre able to cover in the template and the more elements you add on your own, the easier it will be to create the final, formal BYOD policy.
