Robotic process automation describes the use of technology to automate tasks that are traditionally done by a human being. The technology itself mimics an end user by simulating user actions such as navigating within an application or entering data into forms according to a set of rules. RPA is often used to automate routine administrative tasks that typically require a human being to interact with multiple systems, but RPA technology is evolving to support the automation of increasingly sophisticated processes at scale within enterprise architectures rather than on the desktop. Over the past two years, RPA has been adopted by a number of business process outsourcing (BPO) providers and a growing number of end-user organizations are now deploying the technology themselves to create virtual workforces of robotic workers.

Though IP telephony has been available commercially since the mid 90s, it remains an emerging technology for many organizations. Only about 28% of companies have moved all endpoints (handsets, softphones, audio bridges) to IP, according to Nemertes research data. The rest of organizations are either in the process of migrating fully to IP, stuck in a hybrid rollout requiring them to manage typically multiple TDM and IP providers, or firmly planted in TDM. This report reviews the issues and benefits associated with moving to an all-IP environment, based on interviews with IT professionals who have moved to all IP or are in the process of doing so.

Something odd happened during Selecticas roll-up strategy. Usually when a technology vendor acquires a number of providers at relatively low valuations, its focus tends to be on financially engineering the various SaaS, maintenance, upsell and other income schemes from the assets. But in Selecticas case, the acquired became the basis of the company, in a manner in which the sum of the assets became an entirely different equation that it likely even bargained for before getting into the activity in the first place. But sometimes the uncertainty of post-merger integrations can lead to an outcome that benefits all parties involved (including customers) in ways that would be difficult to have imagined going into the process.

In real estate, the most important factor is location, location, location! Your services are not quite as sensitive to the physical position of your technology, but location certainly can be a pivotal factor in optimizing your service design and service delivery. Ideally, location shouldnt matter; however, it does have an e?ect on customer experience. When technology services were simpler, location was largely irrelevant, but now the complexity of new services demands a strategy more in line with your BT agenda than your former IT agenda. The e?ects of regulatory, cost, risk, and performance factors will vary based on the physical location of your technology resources. Colocation providers, cloud service providers, and even traditional hosting services o?er plenty of evolving options to help infrastructure and operations (I&O) professionals balance these factors to optimize service design and delivery.

In the digital era, businesses in every industry are becoming technology companies. New business models such as product as a service (in which traditional manufacturers and distributors are driving new revenue streams by integrating software-based services into their offerings) and new operational models, such as collaboration, social business, and mobile platforms, mean that nearly every company is deriving at least part of its revenue from cloudbased solutions.
