Since SAP introduced its in-memory database, SAP HANA, customers have significantly accelerated everything from their core business operations to big data analytics. But capitalizing on SAP HANAs full potential requires computational power and memory capacity beyond the capabilities of many existing data center platforms. To ensure that deployments in the AWS Cloud could meet the most stringent SAP HANA demands, AWS collaborated with SAP and Intel to deliver the Amazon EC2 X1 and X1e instances, part of the Amazon EC2 Memory-Optimized instance family. With four Intel Xeon E7 8880 v3 processors (which can power 128 virtual CPUs), X1 offers more memory than any other SAP-certified cloud native instance available today.

Enterprises with mission critical applications are exploring the benefits of disaster recovery sites for their data centers to ensure business continuity. Special network technology is needed to ensure that site failover and failback occurs reliably and predictably. An ideal solution should provide reliable network connections, manage inbound and outbound traffic over multiple WAN links, failover to a secondary data center if all links at the primary data center are down, and eliminate deployment barriers and costs of multi-homing with BGP (Border Gateway Protocol).

Securing cloud environments is different from securing traditional data centers and endpoints. The dynamic nature of the cloud requires continuous assessment and automation to avoid misconfigurations, compromises, and breaches. It can also be difficult to gain complete visibility across dynamic and rapidly changing cloud environments limiting your ability to enforce security at scale. On top of these challenges, cloud governance is critical to maintain compliance with regulatory requirements and security policies as they evolve. Because cloud deployments are not just implemented once and left untouched, organizations need to consider how to integrate security into their CI/CD pipeline and software development lifecycle. Implementing a security solution that addresses cloud challenges requires deep security and cloud expertise that organizations often do not have. Once in the cloud, organizations manage and create environments via automation, adapt their workloads to changes by automa

Prefabricated modular data centers offer many advantages over traditionally built data centers, including flexibility, improved predictability, and faster speed of deployment. Cost , however, is sometimes stated as a barrier to deploying these designs. In this paper, we focus on quantifying the capital cost differences of a prefabricated vs. traditional 440 kW data center, both built with the same power and cooling architecture, in order to highlight the key cost drivers, and to demonstrate that prefabrication does not come at a capex premium . The analysis was completed and validated with Romonets Cloud-based Analytics Platform, a vendor-neutral industry resource.

In this Technology Adoption Profile we explore the current state of replication in SMB IT departments and in particular the use of SAN-based replication. We find strong demand for both synchronous and asynchronous SAN-based replication, as well as the need to replicate data within the SMBs own data center facilities, either to a colocated secondary array or to one within 5 km [approximately 3 miles](a campus or metro-style deployment). We also find that in order for SMBs to protect more data using replication, they need replication solutions that are non-disruptive, easy to use, and inexpensive.

A related recent development in the data center is converged infrastructure (CI). Instead of the traditional silo deployment approach to storage, compute, and network resources, all infrastructure elements are delivered and managed in a single environment, providing virtualized access to business services in an efficient manner. This is particularly suitable for cloud-based delivery models. However, since CI achieves lower costs through optimization of data center resources, it can be effective for all IT organizations, regardless of the way in which the services are managed or presented.
