The number of mobile devices managed by enterprises increased 72 percent from 2014 to 2015. This onslaught of technology such as notebooks, smartphones, tablets, watches and gadgets has transformed the way users work. These devices provide users in just about every sector with access to the information and tools they need to do their jobs, wherever and whenever they need them. They’re free to work at their desks, in conference rooms, while visiting clients on the road or during a child’s baseball practice. They can input data directly into a medical chart, an order form or an inspection report, rather than doubling their work by transcribing handwritten notes later in the day.

Client virtualization technologies are redefining the way IT resources are delivered to end users, and creating exciting new opportunities for IT organizations as they work to streamline and improve operations. By abstracting applications and operating systems from client hardware, virtualization enables client assets to be stored on central servers and delivered to client endpoints. The implications are profound. End users can log on to any networkconnected computing device and access their custom operating system and application environment. For IT departments, central management of client virtual machine (VM) images brings efficiencies in everything from routine maintenance and updating to operating system upgrades.

DevOps Unlimited needed to provide application infrastructure for a start-up client which was enjoying rapid growth with its new financial services product. Neither DevOps nor the client wanted to invest in, or manage, its own IT hardware, so a cloud service was the ideal solution. It would give the client the ability to grow rapidly without tying up time, resources and capital expense deploying dedicated IT hardware.

Malware has changed considerably since the early PC viruses appeared more than 25 years ago. Today, it evolves so quickly that many customers find staying ahead of the latest threat nearly impossible. If the explosion in malware variants weren’t enough, sophisticated client-side attacks and advanced persistent threats (APTs) target victims in ways that evade traditional security measures. The question isn’t whether your network will be attacked with advanced malware. The question is when it will happen and how you will respond. Advanced malware is changing the way security is managed.

The data center has gone through many major evolutionary changes over the past several decades, and each change has been defined by major shifts in architectures. The industry moved from the mainframe era to client/server computing and then to Internet computing. In 2011, another major shift began: the shift to a virtual data center. This has been the primary driver in enabling customers to transition to the cloud and ultimately IT as a service. The shift to a virtual data center will be the single biggest transition in the history of computing. It will reshape all the major data center tiers: applications, storage, servers and the network.

The technology that powers organizations has undergone several major transitions since the birth of computing. In the 1960s, the mainframe was the dominant compute model, and it gave way to minicomputing about a decade later. In the 1990s, businesses eventually shifted to PC-based computing in the client/server era. This model was eventually supplanted by Internet computing as the dominant compute model. Today, the technology industry finds itself in the midst of the most significant transition ever: the shift to mobile computing.

Miercom was engaged to perfirm independent, hands-on, comparative testing of competitive IEEE 802.11ac Wave 2-based WiFi Access Points (APs) from Cisco Systems, Aruba Networks and Ruckus Wireless. This report summarizes the results of the Wave 2 AP comparative testing in these areas: - Client density: Downlink throughput as the number of client per AP scales from 10 to 100. - Single vs Multi-User MIMO: Downlink throughput for MU-MIMO (Multi-User, Multiple-Input Multiple-Output), a hallmark of 802.11ac Wave 2, vs Single-User (SU-MIMO) environments. - 1 Gbps+ Link Aggregation: Tests found that Wave 2 APs can support more than 1Gbps of aggregate downlink throughput, tested over two 1-Gbps LAG (link aggregation) connections.

Today's datacenter networks must better adapt to and accommodate business-critical application workloads. Datacenters will have to increasingly adapt to virtualized workloads and to the ongoing enterprise transition to private and hybrid clouds. Pressure will mount on datacenters not only to provide increased bandwidth for 3rd Platform applications such as cloud and data analytics but also to deliver the agility and dynamism necessary to accommodate shifting traffic patterns (with more east-west traffic associated with server-to-server flows, as opposed to the traditional north-south traffic associated with client/server computing). Private cloud and legacy applications will also drive daunting bandwidth and connectivity requirements. This Technology Spotlight examines the increasing bandwidth requirements in enterprise datacenters, driven by both new and old application workloads, cloud and noncloud in nature. It also looks at how Cisco is meeting the bandwidth challenge posed by 3rd

Every sales professional has experienced the frustration of the follow-up to a meeting — the unanswered voice messages, wasted emails, or the “not interested” replies. Traditional follow-up techniques often fail because they don’t feel personal enough to the customer. Meanwhile, reaching out to prospects in-person isn’t always practical because on-site meeting invites may be costly or inefficient.

Are meetings a “soul sucking waste of time,” as a columnist for the British newspaper The Guardian suggests?1 They could be if they’re unproductive, boring, too many of them, or all of the above. The solution may lie in technology, if used properly. “Technology is essential to innovating the conference call and boosting staff engagement,” according to a Harvard Business Review column.2 Video, for instance, may enhance “connectedness between participants” and help them see reactions to one another’s ideas.3

In the last few months, WR has observed that the SX10 has found its way into offices and small meeting rooms of many of our enterprise consulting clients. In some cases, the SX10 was the first Cisco video product ever installed in those environments. This prompted us to take a closer look at this system. This document contains the results of WR’s independent, third-party testing, and our overall opinions of the Cisco TelePresence SX10 Quick Set group video conferencing system.1
