Did you know that 97% of business executives want social integrated across their enterprise? According to a recent Oracle global study, respondents nearly unanimously sang the praises of becoming a social business. Social gives you a window into the consumer like never before, revealing affinities that allow your business to understand and personalize engagements that build stronger customer relationships. Consumers dont see social as a marketing channel. They just view it as part of their communications; its embedded in their daily mobile and digital experiences. Businesses should be thinking the same way. As Altimeter sees it, social business is the deep integration of social media and social methodologies into the organization to drive business impact

In September 2012, the New York City Board of Health approved a measure to ban the sale of large sodas and other sugary drinks in restaurants, movie theaters, sports arenas and street carts in a first of its kind restriction in the US. At the forefront of this measure was Mayor Michael Bloomberg. The mayor noted that 6,000 New Yorkers die every year from obesity-related illness. Some ethnic groups in the city have rates of overweight and obesity approaching 70 percent of adults. African-American New Yorkers are three times as likely, and Hispanic New Yorkers twice as likely, as white New Yorkers to die from diabetes.1 Is this social policy run amuck? Is it, as some have suggested, an infringement on individual rights? Or is it simply recognition that health issues cannot be treated in isolation from the many other factors that affect an individuals or a communitys health?

If you don't think social media ROI can be measured, you need to learn the truth. Social media and word of mouth are more influential than any type of advertising, but many companies are not measuring its impact on sales. Marketers approaching social media with a direct marketing mindset and organizing their programs with the right methodology can clearly determine its impact on sales and ROI.

Social media is making a huge impact on the way we use the Internet, communicate with friends and family, network with business colleagues, gather information, and make decisions. In business, social media can provide unique opportunities to promote products and services, find and recruit talented employees, and deliver an interactive customer experience. But there are also risks, such as the potential to damage the companys reputation and brand, lose intellectual property, or invite lawsuits by employees, job applicants, or customers. From an HR perspective, it can be hard to tell if social media is your friend or your foe. This white paper discusses how HR can use social media and how it can go wrong.

Global smart city revenue is expected to grow to $88.7bn1 and, with its ability to deliver better public services, efficiently and sustainably, its no wonder. The economic impact of smart cities cannot be understated and, as the UK continues to tackle the uncertainty of its departure from the European Union (EU), it is critical that the needs of business are met.
