Most people define mobile devices – smartphones and tablets – as those running a mobile-optimized operating system (e.g. iOS, Android, Windows Phone). There’s a trend emerging, however, in which traditional mobile devices are gaining functionality typically associated with PCs. At the same time, PCs are being architected more like mobile devices — an interbreeding of species, if you will. The iPad Pro, for example, has a keyboard. With Windows 10, phones and tablets can run “Universal” apps that also run on PCs. Windows 10 also has application-layer sandboxing, code-signing, and an app store with apps pre-vetted by Microsoft. In certain configurations (i.e. enterprise-managed devices), a laptop running Windows 10 has a security architecture that looks strikingly similar to a smartphone or tablet.

Public cloud expansion will continue to see double digit growth over the next five years according to IDC. Making the public cloud interoperable with on-premises solutions needs to be part of your hybrid cloud strategy for secondary data workloads. Legacy solutions, however weren’t architected with the cloud in mind. They require use of cloud gateways and don’t scale well in the cloud. Cohesity integrates with Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform to extend your on-premises data protection solution to these public cloud services. Our built-in cloud capabilities give you flexibility to use the cloud for multiple use cases. Download the solution brief for more details.

Microsoft Azure is a public cloud platform featuring powerful on-demand infrastructure and solutions for building and deploying applications workloads as well as a wide variety of IT and application services. You can use Azure as a public cloud provider and as a hybrid extension to existing on-premises infrastructure. Organizations that use Microsoft solutions on-premises are able to extend their infrastructure and operational processes to Azure. With the growing popularity of Azure, today’s systems administrators need to acquire and strengthen their skills on this fast-growing public cloud platform. In this guide we explore the Azure public cloud platform with a focus on the Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) features.
