Retail has been transformed by technology in multiple ways, from the way customers interact with retailers to how products are offered and acquired. Indeed, the entire shopping experience has been redefined and expanded to enable customers to purchase products anytime, anywhere, with any device, from any number of retailers. Consumers changing shopping behaviors and their reliance on technology enables retailers to reach a wider swath of potential buyers, moving well beyond the borders of their physical store locations to new geographies and populations. That said, retailers must understand how to use technology effectively to draw in customers and entice them to purchase, as well as help them improve their operations and enable new, innovative ways to keep customers coming back.

The Dominion Group of Companies offers clients a wide range of professional services, including investment advising, trust services, wealth management, and insurance. Based in Virginia Beach, Virginia, the company has three main offices as well as independent affiliate offices in multiple locations throughout the United States. Dominion is a small but growing company, currently employing 40 people. A recent opportunity for expansion of the trust side of the business required Dominion to branch out from its Virginia Beach headquarters, opening an office in Florida and relocating one of the firms principals to that location. A top priority during that transition was maintaining effective communication, despite the distance, to limit any disruption to existing client services and workflows.

This study showed that as companies adopt cloud strategies for sourcing and building IT services, they are both expecting and achieving significant gains in business key performance indicators (KPIs) including revenue growth, strategic IT budget allocation, IT costs, quicker time to provision, and increased ability to meet SLAs. Further, our study showed that as businesses increased their orientation to cloud, these KPI benefits accelerated. IDC has identified five stages of cloud maturity: ad hoc, opportunistic, repeatable, managed, and optimized (in increasing maturity), and while there are immediate benefits from moving even from ad hoc to opportunistic, the benefits accrue and grow as you move up the adoption curve. Organizations studied are realizing $1.6 million in additional revenue and $1.2 million in reduced costs per cloud application.

The core technology behind Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS) has evolved for decades. More recently, DRaaS has linked to the cloud, and finally hit its stride. Today it can provide unprecedented availability options to companies who dont have secondary data centers dedicated to business continuity. Before now, only IT teams with additional IT budget, staff and geographic locations could effectively hedge against downtime, and disasters. But todays DRaaS means that businesses of all sizes have the peace of mind that comes with knowing a replica of their data and systems is hosted at a remote site that they can fail over towithout bearing any of the infrastructure costs or maintenance responsibilities. All infrastructure and maintenance is the responsibility of the DRaaS provider. And the technology ensures that a replica is not only available, but always current and immediately available. This attractive value proposition led Gartner to predict that global DRaaS revenue will rea
